Australian Internet Censorship – Action Required!
Author: David ZwolskiOnce again, Stephen Conroy is trying to pull his scheme regardless the overwhelming public opposition to the internet censorship!.
Stephen Conroy has just announced his Government will censor all internet traffic with a mandatory ISP-level filter. While people are memorized with Christmas, it is Stephen Conroy hope that he can pull this off. We need to response to this, and once again defend our privileges and privacy!
So what can you do?
- Call your internet provider, and address soundly your concerns.
- Consumer power that we possess proves many times to be the most efficient act in many aspects.
- Call or Fax Stephen Conroy. Lets flood his fax! You can find his details HERE.
- If you wish, you can use GetUp form that Zeitgeist Australia is in kinship regarding this issue.
This is critical guys, we need to act, pick up your phone, inform your friends to do the same.
We need action!
Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it.

DNS attack all government servers. By constant pinging
December 17th, 2009 at 12:03
I have sent a passionate letter to my ISP Telstra voicing my opinion on this, their is no clean feed!, we need to make people realize what is happening.
But attacking the government with force or violence is foolish, unless you want yourself and our group to be labeled terrorists and criminals.

Anyone know where to find the information about what these changes will leave the Australian people?
I might try find some critical reviews about this stat!

This is the best article to read on the filter : http://www.itnews.com.au/News/163063,commentary-why-we-dont-need-a-filter.aspx
The fact is, the filter is only for refused classification (RC) materials, which is legal content which a subset of Australians find offensive enough to complain about. i.e The Zeitgeist Australia website could be put on the blacklist.
The filter isn’t for illegal materials like child pornography, which the police would investigate and try to actually catch the perpetrators.
WE DO NOT NEED THIS FILTER, AND IT WILL ONLY REDUCE FREEDOM OF SPEECH.
I see the filter as the biggest threat to the Zeitgeist Movement, as techniques for getting around the filter (e.g VPN) require technical skills that not everyone has.

As the image says, “I cannot believe we still have to protest this crap!”, i find it so hard to get my head around why people think that shit like this is necessary when there are such bigger problems in the world that needs to be fixed immediately. Apparently a shitty idea to combat child pornography is more important to these people than global hunger, poverty and education.
The whole idea and argument to combat child pornography through censorship is also an implication that every person in the country accidentally stumbles across it in their web searching. I have been using the internet for around 8 years now and I have never once stumbled across anything of the sort, and I am sure I’m not alone in that, which immediately makes the senator’s argument invalid does it not? If his argument is the assumption that the Australian population needs protection from it because we constantly stumble across it?
They happily just gave an entire generation of children at school new laptops, but they cannot distribute some sort of software that parents can use at their discretion? C’mon, is this government serious?

Like wise I have been using the internet for eight years I have not stumbled across and child pornography, one has to deliberately search to find it. For some reason the government does not understand that the internet is user chooser and is a wide community.
I think it is for other reasons and that is to limit the flow of information that we share with each other. It is a threat to the and their agenda.

I sent an e-mail to senator Conroy and newly appointed Shadow Communications Minister, Tony Smith with a clear view of opposition to such a ridiculous plan.
I’ve have sent e-mails to other parties in the past, and i hope that they’ll listen to the people for once, because the outcry is stupendous.
I agree with everyone’s comments in that this is an extremely misguided decision.
keep fighting for freedom!

GETTING PAST CENSORSHIP ETC

hmm, yet another thing taking our freedom of choice away from us.
what i want to know, is if all of these people are so against whatever site/sites it may be… why do they keep going there? you would think that the logical thing to do would be to never visit that site/those sites again and simply forget about it/them and get the hell on with their lives… but they say misery loves company.
March 21st, 2010 at 23:09
i wonder, because most big companies love misery as well
March 25th, 2010 at 19:38
what were they thinking? I doubt its going to happen actually, there’s just too much resistance to this. The thing about beaurocratic process is – departments have to apply for funding and they present projects, before a certain date and those projects amount to x amount of dollars. It often may even look good on paper but in reality, the idea is non-productive. we aren’t letting it happen, our protests are being heard!

Really, really thx for good information.
April 5th, 2010 at 12:58
The internet has been around for a long time now so why are they all of a sudden wanting to censor it’s content? I think they’re going to put the filter in place regardless of public opinion because they want to gag the last remaining source of free independent media that exists. Come on people don’t let them do it!!!
April 12th, 2010 at 20:26
Now that the flow of information on the net is starting to threaten the power of the oligarchy, they are interested, and, I would say, worried.
We must defend the internet at all costs. If anything, we should work towards an even freer internet, with offshore servers.
May 15th, 2010 at 16:36
I have sent emails to both Senator Conroy and to the shadow minister Tony Smith for all the good it’ll do.
I believe that the Government, along with the Senator, have a hidden agenda.
The issue of internet censorship is undemocratic, immoral, unethical, and simply underhanded and they don’t seem to care that it infringes on our rights. Its another way of dumbing down society and keeping us passive, which is just another way of controlling us.
The Australian people and the people of any other country that faces Internet Censorship must band together and fight to stop it from happening.
May 26th, 2010 at 19:35
hello all, i have too emailed him… here is the email address.
May 26th, 2010 at 19:58
try that again…
the minister and shadow minister’s emails are :
below is a copy of what i sent in case anyone wants it as a template…
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to you to express my concern with any attempt to censor the internet in any way. Please realize that my concern is due to my belief that we have the right to complete freedom of information, especially when it comes to internet content – we are mature intelligent citizens of this country and are quite able to make appropriate choices on our own without government intervention. Internet censorship is un-democratic regardless of what reason is put forward and the potential for misuse far outweighs any positive effect for this country’s citizens.
Thankyou,

I believe the australian government is trying to censor our internet usage in an attempt to gain complete CONTROL over information we have access to, after all, information is power and power is… control.
It saddens and angers me that they use their transparent, convenient pretexts to further their sinister agenda and rob us of our civil rights.
I say….FUCK EM!
July 20th, 2010 at 11:59
im with adam paine and david brown, it is obvious that child pornography is just a mask and an excuse to filter the important info we recieve and require, the government is not stupid, they’re just using any means neccesary to destroy public interest in the internet. it’s quite obvious that they’re trying to detur people away from this powerful tool we call the internet. so i remain objective to this notion and think this government should just give up! we all know the truth and thier attemts at covering it up are just plain pathetic.
July 20th, 2010 at 14:50
i myself have never stumbled across a site containing child pornography, thus i have no idea why myself and a select few are the only ones who remain unfoolled to this agenda of filtering the internet. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!!!
July 30th, 2010 at 13:39
yeh, there are intelligent people in this country, and every other country. but, it’s the least informed ones, our friends, our family, people on the bus, that will make everyone of us pay. it might not necessarily interest them to research these things, so you and i need to put it infront of them. being ignorant is what the government wants, so they can get their way easily, right? so, the informed ones, who know that there are definitely hidden agendas behind, in particular, this ‘filtering of the internet,’ need to inform the less informed ASAP! before, the public makes a decision based on superficial knowledge.
i don’t want to be ignorant, and i hope the rest of the world doesn’t want to be either…

If you have any kind of networking platform (Facebook, myspace, etc), exploit it to its fullest.
August 31st, 2010 at 17:36
if this notion is passed succesfully, i will fear for the future and the well-being of people…. we only have a select few of useful tools left in the world that can be used to save it and it’s people, we have to act extremely fast before these notions and laws are made reality and our freedom is completely eradicated by some illusion of security and safety for our children and others, this is just another step to complete control of our minds, lives and the lives of those we care for deeply, it upsets me a great deal and angers me to the greatest extent that our own family members and friends maybe contributers to a great level of ignorance that may soon lead us to destruction….. if only they would just listen.
