The components of the basic aquaponics system consist of Shelter, Fish tank, grow beds, growth medium, pump and plumbing, 12 or 240 volt power source. Test equipement for soil and water to check PH levels, etc.

Where you live will dictate where you source your components

    Some suggestions on,
    Shelter.
Reason, direct sun can heat fish tank and stress out the fish & rain can dilute and over flow the flood and drain system.

Cut price stores some time have 3mtr x 3mtr gazebos, for around $30, white colour is best, unless more shading is needed. These can also come up at markets and g/sales.

3 mtr wide easy igloo. Star stakes (steel fence posts) driven into the ground in two paralel lines each post in each line 1mtr apart, the first post of each line are conected by sliding 2" poly pipe, one end of the poly is slide over the first post in one line and the other end of the pipe is slide over the first post of the second line. And the process is repeated for as many posts and poly you have. Each post adding an extra mtr in length to the structure, so can grow in length as funds permit.
This can be covered with your choice of material be it clear plastic for light and shade cloth to cut the hot house effect.
This is a simplified discription for more detail and plans it would be easier and quicker to call and discuss.

I would like to go into more detail for benefit of other interested ZMMs as well as share knowledge on a personal level.
I can provide many more ideas and detail on all the components needed.

But work commitments have eroded my freetime tonight.

earth care, people care and fair share.

    Thanks for the info,mate..
I got a copy of the DVD ' Aqua Ponics Made Easy ' Im going to watch that. Also got a couple of PDF's I can read into. Though best advice would come from experience. I am sure when I start to set up shop, i will be bugging you with questions..

I plan to document my activities and findings. I will make them available here when I do.

Ah work commitments, I hope to see this current system fail and enter into the new Era before i die..
It will make me very very happy to see that.

yeah we've heard of them, they aren't a bad way to go, how ever.....

the problem i've got is that they are still another system that uses electrical energy to do the same thing the sun does, we have a plentiful supply of land out there and with some of the harvester out there there is now no real need for human interaction at all in our food production, it's now more an issue of property

before you go out and spend any money on anything , give us a few days to finish off a PDF i've been writing on the RBG (resource based groups) project i've been trying to start-up

I shall wait.. I am up to the point of just studying each technique. Weighing up the Pros and Cons.

Not sure if you will cover this topic in your PDF, I am interested in creating local farms in Urban communities. If you have ideas or strategies about that, I would love to hear your thoughts or anybody out there as well.

With the electrical energy, I was hoping to use a Renewable source or a combination of both.

Chris B > the link you gave me doesn't work. The correct link is below if anyone is interested in reading.

    RBG outline PDF

Bruz999 > I am in the Rockdale Area, so anywhere within an hour's travel is fine with me.
I dont have a fix location in mind. Though a few factors come into mind are COST / Businesses in the area /
    farming communities within the area.

I watch the AquaPonics made easy DVD. There was more to the process than I thought. Practice makes perfect,so I am thinking of starting in the back yard, tinker with AquaPonics system until I get the ins and outs of it. Then I can go commercial with it.

Nice article on the Marrickville house farm. I wonder if that will be the way of the near future ?

Chris B > I need to carefully read over the PDF, from what I briefly read it is heading in the right direction. We are in a Monetary System and we need to work with it in the meantime until we can get rid of it.

I know nothing of Hydroponics / AquaPonics or Permaculture but I am going to study it. Below is a link to TAFE course I am going to enroll in
