Anyone else here from Tassie? Was just gonna point out to anyone that doesn't know, i think changing to solar power down here is redundant and 100% of the electricity in our mains is Hydro which is green anyway :o)

is there a Tassie ZA rep down there yet?

being green in TZM is one of the ways we advocate people to be, further we promote to reduce peoples consumption and money circulation though sustainable methods.

if you pay for your electricity - solar panel option is still a valid option.

also, there is a chance that next year we will have a organizer in Tassie - the position is still open thou.

I'm going to be moving back to Tassie, specifically Hobart, in early December in large part in order to get all this good shit that has been happening in Perth over there. Blackout, where are you and Arts, have you got any emails from Tassie people you'll be able to forward to me? Will look to organise a ZG meeting before xmas somewhere in the city to get the ball rolling. talk more soon

Sorry to dig up an old post. But just so you are aware 100% of Tasmania's electricity is NOT Hydro. Hydro Tasmania have an agreement with Victoria's electrical companies (I don't know who produces electricity in Victoria).

Basically the deal is to send power from Victoria in non-peak times (Victoria side) to Tasmania because the power generated in Victoria is from Coal fired power plants. Which means that Tasmania "Turns off" or at least reduces their production of hydro power when there is less demand in Victoria. So power in Tasmania is actually a hybrid of Coal and Hydro.

The reason they do this is because Hydro power plants can control the power output by adjusting the flow of water. This gives essentially an "instant" response of power output vs energy input. However Coal power plants need to heat up and cool down, the cycle takes hours, which wastes a lot of electricity. They can't "instantly" start pumping out extra Gigawatts of electricity when there is a demand for it.

When you think about it Tasmania complements Victoria's electricity by reducing waste electricity (coal is still horribly inefficient). Unfortunately Tasmanians pay a premium on power compare to other states. Which really is unfair because Tasmania is producing green power and reducing the waste from Victoria.
