I came across this Australian company while reading popular science magazine, and thought it might be of interest to those looking at starting to get off the grid, or considering starting self sustaining communities.

Basically a solar desalination plant $400 + freight, produces 16-20 litres per day of pure (distiled water) for ever...no running or maintainence costs.

The besic principles are nothing new however they are making the processes very efficiant, and very affordable. The desalination plant can also be added to, so that salt can be harvested from it.
