Can definitely recommend this film. It's about peak oil, Michael Ruppert seems extremely well versed in what he talks about.

For those of you who are unable to see this, he recommends becoming as self sufficient as possible, basically reducing your survival dependency on oil. So collecting your own water, energy, and producing your own food is a great start.

Friends and I have been talking about this doco for a few days and this is where I sit.

Peak oil as I see it is an immanent problem and dealing with a life without or with minimal oil influence is one of the greatest technological hurdles of our time.

As an energy source: I see this as being replaced with electricity but for a while oil will be greatly involved in the production of electricity, so I would like to see more information on electrical resource production that uses minimal oil at any stage. Great research topic

Oil as a manufacturing substance: In regard to plastics etc oil is very prominent but the emerging field of bio engineering may have some solutions. Please check out this article I just found: http://www.physorg.com/news178178601.html . If anyone would like to further anything i've written go ahead!

Name : Rob Hopkins - Transition to a world without oil
    URL : http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/rob_hopkins_transition_to_a_world_without_oil.html
Brief : Rob Hopkins reminds us that the oil our world depends on is steadily running out. He proposes a unique solution to this problem -- the Transition response, where we prepare ourselves for life without oil and sacrifice our luxuries to build systems and communities that are completely independent of fossil fuels.

(They talk a lot about the Transition Network, which includes the Transition Towns project(s).)

Just wanted to post the link for anyone interested in this movie, I watched the full version here:

It is interesting and raises a lot of important issues to consider. Also makes some reference to the transition and the monetary system collapse which is very relevant to us and could be useful in some of our thinking for the transition. =D

One important concept I can think of at the moment is local food production.

Anyone find any good resources regarding replacing oil in plastics?

Yeah, taking notes is a great idea on those... you pick up on what other people are doing and great way to collaborate.

'Collapse' director Chris Smith shot what essentially is a highly focused monologue by Ruppert in what appears on screen to be an underground bunker. While he does not fully share his subject's point of view, Smith said it forced him to think.

'What I hoped to reveal was ... that his obsession with the collapse of industrial civilization has led to the collapse of his life,' Smith said. 'In the end, it is a character study about his obsession.'

    A character study?

Plus, it might just be the trailer, but it seems more like infotainment than a documentary to me.

I'll give it a go this weekend.

it is interesting that the "creative interpretation of reality" ie documentary has been diverted to one mans cold hard outlook on the world.

The film maker would have trouble guiding someones outlook on the world into some creative editing piece.

This, is the truth of the subject as he see's it.
