    Hi All,
    I’m finding the message board style of communication on Zeitgeist Australia and NSW a bit hard to follow and I propose that an e-mail discussion group (for example, like yahoo offers) be used because when someone contributes a message everyone who has joined the group will receive that message instantly (as well as the message being stored and easily accessed at yahoo). This has the advantages that;

    1. Without having to visit the zeitgeist website and hunt for messages they come to you.
    2. Because messages are likely to be received daily or second daily (depending on activity) recipients will be regularly reminded of zeitgeist (thus sustaining enthusiasm) and kept informed.
    3. I think projects are more likely to be known about and realised with this form of communication. For example, if there is a last minute hitch with a project an instantly received e-mail is more likely to succeed in finding a solution than a message posted on a board.
    4. There are options to upload files and photos.

I have taken the liberty of creating an e-mail discussion group at yahoo for Zeitgeist NSW (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/zeitgeistnsw/) but will not activate it unless there is general interest in this form of communication and most especially if the owners of the Zeitgeist Australia and NSW web site are agreeable.

Feedback on this idea would be most appreciated.

    George.

it's not a bad idea, I'm already on a few of them now and it's quite a good service,
I've seen quite a few forums that were fairly quiet all of a sudden get very busy because of this kind of thing

You can follow active post's via email on the site all ready,
And out sourcing so much off the official site, makes the official site redundant.

As less new information comes to the site and new members come but leave because no new information is here.
Regional people that don't have access to Chapter meetings, and that do not know
of the out sourced information are left in the dark.

Also by using other company's utility's for the sake of ease isn't that great.

    -Peace

    Hi Chris,
I’ve been contributing to on-line discussions for some years now. I also have found the e-mail discussion groups more lively and active. I think it’s because email discussion groups tend be more immediate and intimate, and encourage continuity and exploration of ideas.

    Hi Phem,
Yes, the threads can be followed by e-mail but I think, for reasons above, especially intimacy (people get to know each other better on e-mail discussion groups) it’s preferable to have all the threads occurring simultaneously.

I’ve noticed reference to an “active” project on the NSW site called “General Activism”. There are contact details (and I don’t know how people involved in this group communicate) but I think if that communication was occurring on the same e-mail discussion group along with all the other threads, 1. We’d all be kept up to date whether we had committed to it or not and 2. Everyone would become immediately aware of any need and the likelihood is that someone could help.

“And out sourcing so much off the official site, makes the official site redundant”.

There’s lots of basic information on the web-site that would be quite appropriate left there. Check all the material on the drop down menus at the top of the home page.

“As less new information comes to the site and new members come but leave because no new information is here”.

All the past messages in the e-mail discussion group would be available to anyone (follow a link to yahoo). And it would take as long to join the e-mail discussion group as to register for the forums at the zeitgeist site.

Follow a link to the stored messages of the e-mail discussion group.

Also, does the weekly voice chat still occur? There is a link to it on the website but no indication as to when the voice chat occurs.

    All good points,

But still that style isn't so much for me
None the less I might think about it.

    *edit*
though a message board style chat room could be done for the main site.
Or if we can just mimic some thing like this yahoo thing,
It would take a lot of time and effort, but whats a couple of years worth of study,
    ill look into it now.

But we’d miss the sweet irony of using this service to cause the downfall of the organisation providing it.

What’s the prospect of the second Friday of the month meetings for tzm-NSW becoming on-line (with e-mail discussion group type communication in between)? Much as I’d like to attend I can’t make that time. Are there others who are not able to physically attend but would like to participate? In 2011, what is the need for a physical meet-up other than social?
