How about we use this thread to share ideas on how to get The Zeitgeist Movement and The Venus Project across to the masses.

I'm sure that this will snow ball as soon as get more and more people aware of what it is all about.

Presently I'm thinking we take advantage of mass gatherings like The Big Day Out, and other such 'events'. Like passing out flyers etc at the gates with information no how they can obtain the dvd's and other material free.

ADMIN: Perhaps we could make this sticky?

    Let's do this

    nice one.

When you can guys/gals turn into the Teamspeak 3 zeitgeist channels and listen in to whats going on around the world.

I suggest as an idea to identify ourselves from others there and to gain exposure to our Australian Chapter that we indeed add the phrase "Australian Chapter" to your nick.

    Like this, t0n3s-Australian Chapter.

I have attended the international meeting this morning and yesturday I was met the Canadian Chapter.

This morning Turkey and Mexico were officially welcomed aboard.

    main topic was Z-Day.

Over my christmas holiday they seemed to jump ship to teamspeak... I better come check it out

    To keep on topic tho...

I think triple J would be a great audience. Get them involved and hell, you'd get everyone.

Trying and get an interview on Triple J's Hack program would be a great idea. But is there anyone up to it?

I'll be working on exposure by putting up posters around UQ where I can or am allowed to, and ultimately trying to get an official group together.

'till then I'll just be emailing and posting the odd link or video on my Facebook profile.

I just thought of the possibility of getting Jacque Fresco on Triple J while he's over here, but I think he'll just form a disconnect with the younger viewers, which form the vast majority of Triple J's demographics. I'd wager he'd come across as out-of-touch, preachy and elitist.

    What do you guys think?

  7. craftymethod

I think someone could do an awesome job. Might sound a little preachy coming from Jacque, but if an honest and clued in young person could package want for change with actual focus and motivation then you really have something.

Something that really gets under the skin to address "root causes".

Root causes. 2 words to rule them all.

The best response I have had, when talking about Jacques and The Venus Project and issues brought up in Zeitgeist has been from people over 50.
Maybe we'll miss the bigger audience be not catering to them.

Also I believe that more people will respond to The Venus Project if they have never heard of Zeitgeist.

As I was going through a bunch of old junk I had packed away in boxes I came across tonnes and tonnes of these Avant cards that I had kept over the years, mainly because most of them have really great artwork or are clever and funny. I used to hang them on my walls as artwork or I have occasionally received them as birthday cards etc, mainly because they are a type of artwork in themselves regardless of what they are advertising. And as I said I have kept them for years.
The point is that I had the idea of seeing if we could possibly look into distributing some for TZM. These things are everywhere. I usually see them at cinemas or clothing stores in the city or shopping centers.
They are a little pricey but maybe we could get enough people to chip in. Or if there's some way we could prove that we are a not for profit organisation we could see if there's a possibility of a discount.
    The website is here: http://www.avantcard.com.au/index.php

My other idea is flyer and DVD distribution, like many religions and other causes tend to do. We could set up locations in the CBD or shopping centers and have people standing around to give information. I would be happy to volunteer for a day here and there to promote TZM. I haven't yet called council to ask about this because I'm sure we need some kind of permit but if anyone else is interested I could look into it further.

Finally, did anything come of the suggestion to promote ourselves on Triple J? I think it's a great idea. Just about every 20 something year old I know listens to Triple J.
I'd be happy to do it but I'm not sure I have the greatest voice for radio and I would probably need to brush up on my knowledge of the ins and outs of the whole project if there were any in-depth questions.

Anyway, let me know what you all think. =)

In my limited experience promoting small community events, I would say we don't need to be flashy - we need to be everywhere. TVP is contravertial enough that we don't need to bother trying to generate discussion; that will happen organically. I think we should concentrate on street level promotion to the masses and any media which reaches a wide audience. Hack is great but is keyed towards a younger audience so we shouldn't forget to promote to other dmographics as well.
