Hi Vic/Melbourne!
As you might know, Melbourne has a strong, diverse and absolutely thriving independent music scene, with an amazing array of bands and artists; many of whom are fantastic activists and conscious-thinkers.
May I propose we get a few of these artists on board and put on a series of (or even a one-off) live music/entertainment events to bring people together for a night of fun and entertainment while finding out about TZM. I think this type of event could be a great fundraising opportunity while spreading awareness about the cause – particularly among the independent arts community – and also a great informal networking opportunity and an excuse to have some fun.
For example; A 4-5 Indie band lineup, special event at one of Melbourne’s renowned inner-city venues (say 250 – 300 capacity) presented by ZM’s Melbourne chapter. We could have our ZM materials displayed/handed out at the event and also do a small info presentation on TZM at show’s ‘halftime’. ZM's info will also be on all the promo material in the lead-up to the event too.
The right indie bands/artists will always get press coverage for a special event (at minimum from street press like Beat & Inpress and community radio), and as the ‘presenter’, ZM will benefit from all of the publicity too.
I have quite extensive experience in music/events marketing and publicity and have a good knowledge of the local venues, media and wider music community, so could certainly contribute time and resources towards sourcing bands & venues, promotion and publicity coverage as well as sponsorship/fund sourcing. We could do something like this at very little cost, pay the performers a cut of ticket sales and keep leftover profits in the stash for a rainy day.
Perhaps at some point, we could event organize an ‘events team’ that can work on a range of different events that will spread the word, raise some dough and gain some local media coverage?
Anyway, there’s my two cents worth – just using what I know I guess
