Some of the other Truth-related groups are thinking about setting up a permanent venue for all our groups to use and function as a HQ for the whole movement in Sydney. So far, Zeitgeist and We Are Change are keen and I'm pretty sure TMA would be too.

The basic idea is to save all the groups money on venue hire by renting one commercial space that we can all use and contribute in proportion to usage to the rental. With the number of groups we can get involved and the amount of hours the venue could be used day and night, it will really bring down the costs of meetings for all the groups and help forge a stronger sense of community, provide groups with meeting space, storage space, tea facilities, noticeboards, maybe phones, etc. We are initially thinking of an upstairs of a shopfront in Redfern/Waterloo, ideally leased to a café below for food and drink availability! Very affordable rents here and heaps of shops available. Nice and close to trains and buses.

    your feedback?

I like this idea very much. Maybe an area where we can have a few computers set up and a storage area for members working on small-scale projects too.
We could get our hands on an old projector to use with presentations, and chairs/tables/presentation equipment would be quite easy to get hold of.

If its a decent commercial space, it could even have a small kitchen where we could perhaps even organise a small charity event where a few of us get together and just cook some meals for the needy etc. (good way to spread word on the work of the movement).

    That sounds fantastic.

We'd be able to set it up so it has a professional look and feel to give a good first impression for new people.

Or the exact opposite. Depending on what we go for.

That is a good idea indeed.

I think we could make the walls look good if we had some of Jacque Fresco's posters and technical drawings, as well as perhaps motivating quotes and notice boards for events etc.

We could also have a community cupboard, for people to fill with like cheap snacks etc (like instant noodles or chips etc), just to have for the meetings... long life stuff would be better.

If we do decide to set up a network/computer corner, i would love to come and help set that up.. Ubuntu would be a great OS to run on older hardware, and im sure i have a couple of junk boxes lying around i could install it on.

    Anyone else have other ideas?
