Hi, Aratulla is 80 klms from Bris, bus runs direct to and from 2x a day, the town has all the usual conveniences, A friend of mine John Waters lives there and is making enquiries to the Boonah shire councl and related departments on the developement of the first Living Village project at Aratulla, he has no money to purchase land so he is looking to obtain funding from gov, local shire council and anyone willing to support such a developemnt.

If you think there is shop front that will serve you up what you require in the way of a sustainable lifestyle that suits your wants and needs, with or without a price tag, you may well have a long wait. The way these places get going is through participation, that means making contact with these people and working through the hurdles.
The communities that are successful are formed by people with the passion and commitment to get involved and be a part of the formation. there are many communities that have done that, and many, are more than happy to give out info' on start up, and many will open their doors to help others get the community they want up and running without all the problems they had to endure.

You are well placed to make this happen as many have been before you.

So shut down the tv for 1 hr per day and pick up the phone or internet and make contact, your time will not be wasted.

Apathy is a disease, and positive constructive action is the cure.

Do nothing and nothing will happen.

If you are serious........... do something.

Don't look for excuses, look for oportunities because there has never been a better time to find them.

    Take care & be well

I think we all must remember their are also many out of the box ideas that can be implimented, if locating to a community isn't viable. You can begin getting yourself off the grid in many other ways. My parents retired 10 years ago on a 20acre hobby farm with the intent of being as self sufficiant as possible.(I might begin a thread about my parents farm sometime they do some amazing stuff for a couple in thier late 60's) My dad produces his own bio-diesel at around 30c a litre, combine that with an economical diesel vehical and you take a big step in fighting the oil companies. My mother makes various soaps from the by product ie, peaple soap, dish washing and laundry soap, she is still perfecting her reciepes (she is entirely off the detergent company grid, lol). I know bio-diesel is not a perfect long term solution to a VP community, but short term it is very effective and practical in reducing our carbon foot print while delievering a blow to those who hold us ransom.

Bio-diesel has always been rumoured to be damaging or unsuitable for modern diesel motors however this is a myth, if made properly it is as good if not better than anything you will buy at a pump, anything else you may have heard is propaganda. My dad is padantic when he makes his fuel, (you only encounter problems if you are lazy and don't filter it enough or greedy and alter your ratio's to try and reduce your costs),he has never had any fuel related problems with his 2 tractors and landcruiser.

The process for making bio-diesel is relatively simple and there are plenty of websites to show you how to build your own processing plant on almost any scale, and you can even buy one ready to go. The investment pays for itself very quicky.

sorry i didn't read this but i am thinking Queensland needs change at the moment and wow a zeitgeist community would help so much with the flooding and such disasters. i live in sydney and i'm 16 but all you people from queensland get together change your communities. you obviously need help but no one is going to help. money wont do much. make a community that is self sustainable and make this happen. the government will not help. all i've seen is the tv showing people not covered by their insurance and are homeless and where's there help from the government? no where.
inform people up there. make a change. you need it in queensland

I would be interested in this, but I am financially strapped until the end of this year. I will watch intently and wish you all the very best success.

    Let's do this

I am very interested and have started a project on this. I believe there is a way to do this for people tht have no capital by partnering with those that do and forming a synergy of efforts. I am going to make this happen, there is no doubt it can work and will be moving forward with this over the next 12 months. I welcolm all discussion and would love ideas and help please email me tim@freshplanning.com.au and we can meet up and get it happening. (time is a hard one for me as I run a business and work 12+ hours 6 days a week)I need this to be able to slow down like the rest of us and enjoy life and give back to others and the planet.

My partner, friend and myself are looking at buying land up near gympie because we can't find and or afford land closer to the sunshine cost where we are now. We are looking at 4-6 acres to build an earth ship style house. The theory we are going with is once we know how to do it we can teach others who can teach others etc. I would love to get a community together to do this but have no idea where to start. If there is a group or community that wants to develop I think we would be interested as we would rather move south rather than north.

    ELFRO YOU ARE A GENIUS!!!
My goodness, RENTING LAND!!!! That is the answer for all of us!!, my parnter have been tossing around the idea but could not get over the housing set up situation. Renting means less stress, we can do it straight away (no need for huge up front capital, and no stress if we need to relocate for any reason . .) Do you know anyone already living in a yurt in QLD?? Can relocatable flooring such as floor board staging be used to keep everything out of the wet . . . we need to think about coping in torential the rain heh . .
Maybe we need to design an appropriate Aussie yurt design . . . .would love to hear from you . .

Sure you can say this is only my opinion but please get over the RENTAL idea. You need money EVERY WEEK to pay rent. Once you piss off the landlord on any level you are gone. GAME OVER.

The best approach is a collective. The ONLY reason it's not done already is fear of losing our money. Unfortunately this is a fear we are all to familiar with. We MUST build this bridge, unite as one and get on with it.

Let's meet, let's set a date one Saturday soon and all get together. We need to develop trust and appoint someone as trustee or caretaker of the collected finances. It is not hard to open a bank account or similar which requires multiple signatures to withdraw funds. I was the treasurer for the kindy across the road one year, I dont want to, but I will do it. Im tighter than a nuns c*nt, good luck gettin money off me without serious justification. I paid cash for my house too, how many do you know that can say that. Not keen on me? Thats cool I'm not offended and am not a money wizard, just a tight ass LOL. Lets get together and choose someone or go down to a bank and do it together. Imagine a cheque that requires 20 signatures hahaha. We ALL want the same thing. With a common goal, people, often from completely different walks of life, are easily able to bond together as one. That's us.

Together we have a shot at purchasing a reasonable but not huge block of land we can ALL use to build upon. Or raising the finance to expand or build on Dowell's property. for example. Although I would prefer something to which we could put under the Title of "TZM Aus/QLD" rather than an individuals name. I know solicitors that can form a trust. We could even be a Corporation with each of us as named share holders. Excess production could be sold using the same Corp name, ABN and all. Just throwing out ideas.

We have Architects to design infrastructure and other plans.

We have builders and construction people and even a good amount of labourers (thats all of us of course)

We have people looking into construction material.

We have people expanding their horizons with regard to power sources. Wind Solar even Hydrogen. Does anyone know anything about methane. I read a thread about "Harmony" so we have a source of knowledge regarding bio-fuel.

We have people whom can grow food and look after animals.

We have people learning about waste management.

We have people learning about recycling.

Hell we even have someone contacting politicians. This is a must as we need to know how many people we can put on a block at any one time under current regulations which will depend upon and could dictate where we buy.

Again just ideas to achieve our goal.

These are some of OUR resources we have RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW IN QLD.

Power source, water, food, shelter. We wont ever need "the Grid" ever again. I want that so much and so do you!!!

What do you think? Too much? No Good? Worth a shot?

Lets set a date, get together and nut this out.

Im just growing tired of seeing us all wanting the same thing and not having a clue how to achieve it. We're not building a hippy/hobby farm here people. We're building a way of life for a better future.
