I think this is a Giant Sequoia Pine (Redwood) this one (if it is the same one) is in California and was growing long before man walked the Earth, long before the Swiss Alps were even there. It can be seen in episode 10 "Seasonal Forests" of the awesome doco series by the BBC called Planet Earth. You can download the entire series from ISOHunt.com well worth watching. Be sure to get the European ones, as the American versions have Captain Pickard lol cant think of his real name from Star trek doing the commentary.

Honestly, if you need a bit of inspiration about the Earth and what a RBE is all about, aka what kind of things are we trying make sure survive, this will give you a clue as to what will all be gone if we dont do something about the greedy corporate profiteers filling it up with waste.

I have watched this series many times and I still see things I missed. This is an awesome Planet with some spectacular life forms in and on it. Truly amazing.

This particular tree if it is the same one, is the largest living thing on the entire planet and is known as General Sherman. It apparently weighs about the same as 10 Blue Whales.

hehe even found a link of sorts, http://www.giant-sequoia.com/homepage/

    Let's do this

You're right it is...General Sherman, haha, how could I forget... I loved that Planet Earth series..I never knew the American version was narrated by a different guy, its a shame, because it should only be narrated by David Attenborough, he does such a good job....

Picard does give it a weird not from this earth feel... like being introducted to an alien planet

Yeah I guess being a commonwealth nation we are used to ole Dave, but those bloody yanks need to have things Americanised in order for the trailer park inhabitants to watch them. I only dld 1 episode which had his voice and honestly it just didnt sound right. I deleted it pretty quick lol.

Hows the birds of Paradise, freekin unreal. Ever wondered where ancient cultures got inspiration for some of those weird as tribal masks. Imagine seeing one of those birds after eating fungi.

And the one that really warped the noodle, the 17 year cicada cycle that feeds the ENTIRE forest. Predators next to prey so full of bug delight they practically smile at each other.
