What will our children think of this?
Well, I would think, if they're wise and intuitive, they would think "Why does this society PRODUCE so much litter?"
I know we're meant to make it the responsibility of consumers to throw away their litter, but if it wasn't produced in such excess, and things were made to be reused, then it wouldn't happen.
The other day when my wife was going through the West to teach my 7 year old daughter about what a newspaper is and what to look for, my daughter began to cry. There were bright and colourful advertisements - mostly for alcohol juxtaposed with small black and white photo's of actual importance that were washed out in comparison. The biggest thing she pointed out was they she felt disgusted that a photograph showing an oil spill was plain and boring when on the opposite page a bright and colourful picture of the Freo Dockers was displayed.
The point of the exercise was to see if she could decipher which articles were important and which ones were less so. It really broke my heart. The fact that a young mind makes these connections so easily and yet it is something we 'grown ups' so often take for granted is truly powerful.
@Lasher
Smart and sensitive girl - raze her well.
I agree David.. I think we do well to educate her (well, especially my wife). Home schooled. But her soul is definitely her own - and it is beautiful.
This makes shit real... who are we living for... what matters most? If a young mind can decipher the bullshit so easily - why do we as apparent 'grown ups' let this shit slide? I think the hung parliament we have just recently experienced is a true testament to the hope I have in the Australian people. We should be leading the world with our intellectual progress and our adaptability to global climates - instead of sucking up to the systems of media and other money making formats in place today. We should focus on raising leaders. We should b an inspiration to them. THAT IS OUR RESPONSIBILTY.
If a young mind can decipher the bullshit so easily - why do we as apparent 'grown ups' let this shit slide?
what would be the opposite of indoctrination?
